Led by Lisa Detanna, Managing Director, Senior Vice President of Investments and Private Wealth Advisor, team members and management from the Raymond James Beverly Hills office were welcomed by 35 elementary-aged students at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson for an interactive reading and discussion of Treasures in a Winter Vault, a children’s financial literacy book co-authored by Detanna. The event encouraged students to think about saving, spending wisely, and building healthy financial habits at an early age.
Following the reading, students participated in a lively discussion sharing what they learned from the story and how the lessons applied to their own lives. Their thoughtful responses demonstrated that complex financial concepts can be understood when presented in an engaging and age-appropriate way.
“Our goal is to help young people develop confidence and understanding around money from an early age,” said Lisa Detanna. “Financial literacy is a life skill, and by introducing these concepts through storytelling, we can make learning both meaningful and memorable.”
Each student received a complimentary copy of Treasures in a Winter Vault along with a Money Smarts workbook and activity kit, designed to reinforce the lessons learned during the event and encourage continued conversations about money at home.
Detanna also expressed special appreciation to Terri Steffner, Practice Business Manager of the Global Wealth Solutions Group, for architecting and developing the Money Smarts financial literacy workbook used during the event.
“A special thank you to Terri Steffner for developing the Money Smarts workbooks that accompanied the books,” said Detanna. “These educational resources helped transform a simple reading event into a hands-on learning experience, giving the students practical tools they can continue using long after the event concluded.”
The event is part of a broader commitment by Raymond James and the Global Wealth Solutions Group to promote financial education and community engagement. Through the firm’s partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, associates nationwide are helping empower young people with skills that can positively impact their future.
The Southern California book tour and literacy initiative will continue to include two additional Boys & Girls Club events in southern California, expanding the reach to even more students with engaging lessons on saving, goal setting, and smart financial decision-making.
